Alan Fears - Howdy Partner
Engineering Hidden Utility For this collaboration, the goal was to transform Alan Fears' colorful, naive character design into a functional object without compromising its artistic integrity.
Precision Fit: I engineered the cowboy hat to serve as a removable lid, creating a hidden storage vessel inside the head.
Tolerance Management: The challenge was designing a friction-fit connection that was secure enough to hold the lid in place, yet loose enough to be removed easily, all while maintaining the seamless appearance of a solid sculpture when closed.
The Mechanism: The hat functions as a precision-engineered lid.
Hidden Utility: A functional storage compartment seamlessly integrated into the sculpture's volume.
The Reference: Translating the specific charm of Alan Fears' 2D painting into a 3D product.
