Jing Wei - 4pm
Giving Weight to Line Art
Jing Wei’s work is defined by clean lines and graphic abstraction. The challenge in 3D is that these flat shapes can easily lose their character when inflated.
Interpretive Sculpting: My role was to translate the 'implied' volumes of the line drawing into actual mass. I carefully modeled the interlocking forms of the hug to ensure the sculpture felt heavy and comforting, rather than just round.
Surface Tension: I focused on keeping the transitions soft but defined, preserving the 'delicate sensibilities' of the original '4pm' concept while ensuring the form read clearly from every angle in the round.
The Physical Final: The matte, soft-touch finish complements the 'sleepy' narrative of the volume.
Form Resolution: Defining the spatial depth of the interlocking limbs where the 2D drawing was ambiguous.
