Dennis Osadebe - Stand For Something
Strategic Assembly for Perfect Finishes
Dennis Osadebe’s 'Neo-African' style contrasts deep, void-like black surfaces with vibrant, flat graphic details. To achieve this look physically, I couldn't just sculpt a single object. I had to engineer an assembly kit.
Component Separation: I split the sculpture into two distinct parts—the high-gloss body and the matte, detailed mask. This allowed them to be manufactured in completely different materials to best suit their textures.
Precision Keying: I engineered a custom keyed connection hidden behind the mask. This guaranteed that the two parts would lock together perfectly during assembly, eliminating the need for difficult masking or risky hand-painting on the finished surface.
Component Engineering: The mask was designed as a separate key-in piece to allow for crisp, multi-color fabrication.
The Final Assembly: The separate mask allows the body to retain a flawless, uninterrupted high-gloss finish.
In addition to the full piece with color details, a smaller monochrome version was made
Asset Versatility: The core digital sculpt adapted for single-material casting in various colorways.
